Parrot cay news - be always the first to know
Conde Nast Traveller magazine's readers have elected COMO Shambhala Retreat at Parrot Cay as the Best Hotel Spa 2007 in not just the Caribbean but all the Americas. In addition, the property is considered number two in the world, according to the magazine's global poll. The news, announced in the March 2007 'Spa Special', confirms COMO Shambhala's importance in the global spa market. The property scored 96.31 out of 100 on the magazine's index of satisfaction (this measures spa facilities and service). These results were driven by guests and readers who responded to a specific Conde Nast Traveller questionnaire. COMO Shambhala Retreat at Parrot Cay was the first COMO Shambhala Retreat to open, in 1998; it has since been followed by further openings in Bali, Bhutan, the Maldives, London and Bangkok. Located in the quiet northern Caribbean on a private one-acre island, it is a place to rediscover wellness, espousing a holistic, Asian-inspired attitude to health. State-of-the-art facilities include a 540sq ft infinity-edge pool that overlooks the leeward side, a 920sq ft yoga room aired by natural breezes, and three treatment rooms. In 2000, a further 6,600sq ft extension was added. This included an outdoor Jacuzzi garden for women only, two new yoga and Pilates studios, four single massage rooms and two double massage rooms with Japanese baths. Ayurveda is a key component of the experience, and guests can couple wellness packages with detoxifying diets (Parrot Cay is where COMO Shambhala cuisine was pioneered). Other forms of massage, body treatments and wraps are based on traditional therapies from Japan, Bali, Thailand and China, in addition to Swedish massage, reflexology and aromatherapy techniques. Skincare includes Dr Hauschka facials and newly introduced anti-ageing treatments from Dr Nicholas Perricone. COMO Shambhala's now famous Retreat Weeks with the world's best yoga teachers were first introduced at this resort. Today, the centre maintains fruitful relationships with major yoga centres, including Jivamukti in New York and the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara.
